My Experience at WordCamp Mukono: How Community Opened Doors for Me – Part 1

I recently had the incredible opportunity to speak at WordCamp Mukono, Uganda, on the topic “From Figma to WordPress: Transforming Custom UI Designs into Fully Functional Websites.” It was a surreal experience. One that I’ll never forget.

But was it all smooth sailing? Not exactly. Did I have an amazing time? Absolutely!

So, how did I become a speaker at WordCamp Mukono 2025? By being part of a community.

The Buea WordPress Community( WordPress Buea ) has played a massive role in my growth, and this opportunity is one of the many perks I’ve enjoyed as a member. Even after more than six years of using WordPress, there were still things I wasn’t fully aware of until I joined the community.

For example, I didn’t fully understand the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org  or the vast opportunities within the global WordPress ecosystem. These are simple yet crucial things that every WordPress user should know, but unfortunately, that isn’t always the case.

So, let me be straightforward. It’s quite simple: if you’re using WordPress or are interested in it, join the WordPress Community! It’s been a game-changer for me, and I’m confident it can be for you

If you’re a WordPress user or enthusiast in Buea, I can’t recommend this community enough. It’s a space where you learn, grow, and connect with others who are just as passionate about WordPress. You never know what doors it might open for you!

A huge thank you to the Yoast Diversity Fund for making it possible for me to attend WordCamp Mukono. Also, shoutout to the hardworking men and women who made the event a success.

They say a place is only as special as the people in it. And I couldn’t agree more! My experience at WordCamp Mukono, wouldn’t have been the same without the incredible people who welcomed, guided, and supported me along the way. A huge thank you to Ssebunya Moses Musoke, JB, Dorcus and the entire Mukono WordPress community for making my stay so smooth and enjoyable. Your kindness and hospitality truly made all the difference!

Looking forward to more collaborations and more WordCamps in the future!

And glory to God for giving me a safe journey to and from Uganda.
